BOSTON -- The Bates College men's cross country team placed 15th out of 47 teams overall, and fourth among Division III teams, on Saturday at the all-divisions Open New England Championships, held on Franklin Park's 8-kilometer course.

Only Williams (8th), Bowdoin (11th) and Keene State (13th) finished ahead of Bates among Division III teams in the overall team standings.

Bates, ranked seventh in New England by the USTFCCCA, competes at the Maine State Championship next Saturday at Bowdoin.

Head coach Al Fereshetian called it "a very good day for us," adding that Bates' top eight runners posted lifetime best times on an 8K course. "We saw very nice progress from our 5-6-7-8 runners. We can still run better up front, and next week will be a great test against Bowdoin at the State Meet. Our teams match up very well."

Senior Devin Dilts (Roscoe, Ill.) led the way for Bates with a time of 25:20, good for 26th place out of a total 318 runners, and sixth for Division III. First-year Noah Graboys (Glencoe, Ill.) was 44th overall in 25:36, and sophomore Andrew Wortham (Newton, Mass.) came in 88th at 26:05. Finishing out the scoring for the Bobcats, first-year Tully Hannan (West Hartford, Conn.) was 126th in 26:22 and junior Sean Colligan (Goffstown, N.H.) was 150th overall in 26:36.

After taking his GRE test earlier in the day, junior Tom Esponnette (Auburn, Maine) placed 29th overall in 26:46 to lead Bates to 13th place as a team in the sub-varsity race.
