HADLEY, Mass. -- For the first time since 2004, the Bates men's cross country team placed two runners on the NESCAC All-Conference Team, which was announced Tuesday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Senior Devin Dilts (Roscoe, Ill.) earned First Team honors, while first-year Tully Hannan (West Hartford, Conn.) was named to the Second Team.
The first seven finishers at Saturday's NESCAC Championship made the First Team, followed by the next seven finishers populating the Second Team.
Dilts is Bates' first runner to make the All-NESCAC First Team since Dan Johnson '06 did it in 2005. The inclusion of Hannan makes this year the first since 2004, when Johnson and Joel Anderson '05 both made the Second Team, that Bates has had two on the all-conference team.
Bates placed fifth at the meet, its best team standing since 2004, despite holding one of its top runners, rookie phenom Noah Graboys, out of the race, which was held on an exceedingly wet and muddy 8-kilometer course at Hamilton.
Dilts ran amongst the race leaders throughout and wound up in sixth place in a time of 26:31.4. Dilts will claim his first NESCAC First Team All-Conference honors, after winning Second Team honors last year by placing 11th. Hannan moved up from about 20th place near the end to finish 10th in 26:38.9.
