Men's cross country places fourth at ECAC Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The No. 10 nationally ranked Bates men's cross country team took fourth place among 44 teams competing Saturday at the ECAC Cross Country Championship, hosted by Williams College at Mt. Greylock High School, up one place from last year's fifth-place finish.

Junior captain Eric Kimball (Manchester, N.H.) paced the Bobcats by placing 20th overall out of 300 runners in the race, covering the 8-kilometer course in 27:10.46. Junior James LePage (Cumberland, Maine) was close behind in 23rd, at 27:19.41. Junior Graham Pearsall (Guilford, Maine) came in 28th at 27:30.68, and senior captain Sean Colligan (Goffstown, N.H.) took 31st place in 27:37.48. First-year John Stansel (Newburyport, Mass.) rounded out Bates' scoring by placing 35th overall in 27:41.86. First-year Camden Black-Ingersoll (Concord, N.H.) took 42nd place in 27:50.42.

Though most teams' top runners sat out this weekend's meet, NESCAC squads still dominated the field, including the top four team showings. Williams won the meet, followed by Tufts, with Middlebury, Bates and Keene State rounding out the top five.

Bates competes next Saturday at the NCAA New England Regionals, taking place at Bowdoin. The women's championship race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men's race at noon.
