No. 5 men's cross country sweeps RPI Invitational

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The No. 5 nationally ranked Bates men's cross country team remained undefeated this season and scored a perfect 15 points in dominating the RPI Invitational on Saturday, claiming first place among 16 teams.

Senior Ken Whitney (West Hartford, Conn.) claimed first place among all collegians with a time of 25:43.86 over the 8-kilometer course at Saratoga State Park. Right on Whitney's heels were four teammates completing the scoring sweep: junior Noah Graboys (Glencoe, Ill.) in second at 25:44.22, senior Andrew Wortham (Newton, Mass.) in third at 25:44.43, senior James LePage (Cumberland, Maine) in fifth at 25:44.67 and junior Mike Martin (Slatersville, R.I.) in fifth at 25:45.06.

Senior captain Graham Pearsall (Guilford, Maine) finished 10th overall in 26:02.16, and sophomore Camden Black-Ingersoll (Concord, N.H.) came in 12th (26:04.31).

Host Rensselaer was the runner-up with 65 points, followed by Vassar (102), Plattsburgh State (134) and Oneonta (158) to round out the top five teams.

Bates competes next Saturday, Oct. 13 in the Maine State Championships, hosted by the University of Southern Maine at the Narragansett School in Gorham. The race starts at 11am.
