Women's Nordic team impressive at the UVM Carnival

STOWE, Vt. -  Senior Natalie Ruppertsberger (Plainfield, N.H.) is getting quite comfortable in the top-ten this season, as her unbelievable success continued on the final day of the UVM Winter Carnival. Ruppertsberger claimed ninth place in the women’s 10K Freestyle out of 70 racers, with a time of 33:14.6. The ninth place finish came a day after Ruppertsberger finished fifth in the women’s 5K Classic. She has four top-ten finishes this season.

Also having strong performances in the women’s 10K Freestyle were sophomore Beth Taylor (Norwich, Vt.), who earned 17th place (34:17.2) and senior Abby Samuelson (Freeport, Maine) in 24th place (34:42.9).

In the men’s 10K Freestyle, first-year Lucas Milliken (North Yarmouth, Maine) raced to a 33rd place finish out of 66 competitors, in a time of 34:42.9. Seniors Harry Poole (Yarmouth, Maine) and Brandon Cooper (Aspen, Colo.) finished 44th (29:59.2) and 49th  (30:10.8) respectively.

Bates alpine and Nordic teams finished the weekend in 8th place out of 13 teams with 486 points. The Bobcats return to the mountain February 12-13, at the Dartmouth Winter Carnival in Hanover, N.H.

Saturday Recap

In the first day of racing for the Nordic teams at the University of Vermont Winter Carnival, women's skier, Ruppertsberger was tremendous, adding another top-10 finish to her resume this season. Ruppertsberger claimed fifth place out of 76 skiers in the women's 5K Classic with a time of 17:00.9.

Also scoring well for Bates was first-year Gretchen Sellegren (Bozeman, Mont.) with a 25th-place finish in a time of 17:58.8. Samuelson was only three seconds behind Sellegren with a  time of 18:01.8, good enough for 28th place.

On the men's side, Milliken and Poole were the first two finishers for the Bobcats. Milliken earned a 21st place finish out of 67 racers in the men's 10K Classic, with a time of 31:28.7. Poole was right behind Milliken in 24th place with a time of 31:36.5. Rounding out the top three skiers for bates was first-year Corey Hill (Keene, N.H.) in 42nd place with a time of 32:55.7.
