Woods, McDonald pace Nordic in Dartmouth Carnival freestyle races

HANOVER, N.H. -- Sophomore Kaelyn Woods placed 20th and senior Parker McDonald placed 25th in the women's and men's freestyle races Saturday at the Dartmouth Carnival, leading the Bates Nordic teams.

A day after her career-best sixth-place finish in the classic race at Dartmouth, Woods (New Gloucester, Maine) finished the course at Oak Hill Recreation Area in 15:23.4. She was followed in the Bates women's squad scoring by first-year Zoe McKinney (North Conway, N.H.) in 49th place (16:08.8) and sophomore Annie Blakslee (Edwards, Colo.) in 61st place (16:36.9).

McDonald (Wolcott, Colo.) finished the course in 27:20.8 to lead the Bates men in 25th place overall out of 79 men. Sophomore Graham Houtsma (Aspen, Colo.) took 34th place in 27:48.1 and senior Connor Gray (Whitefish, Mont.) was Bates' final scorer in 59th place (29:33.7).

Bates' Nordic and alpine ski teams combined for a season-best seventh-place finish among 17 teams at the Dartmouth Carnival, with 365 team points.

Bates heads to the Williams Carnival next weekend, at Jiminy Peak in Hancock, Vt.
