BOSTON -- The Bates College rowing teams both posted strong results on Sunday at the Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River.
The Bates women's eight placed 12th out of 35 boats in the Collegiate Women's Eights races, ahead of such rivals as New Hampshire, Smith and Trinity. The diverse field included winner Grand Valley State, a club from Rotterdam, Netherlands, and several Canadian teams. With rookie coxswain Carrie Dillaway (Woodbridge, Conn.) being put to the test on the serpentine course, the Bobcats crossed the finish line in 18:56.782.
The Bates men's eight was 15th out of 38 boats, as senior Lindsay Thomson (West Hartford, Conn.) coxed the crew to the finish line in 16:28.991, just behind Coast Guard for 14th and ahead of such varied competition as North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Washington University in St. Louis and Lehigh. Williams won the Collegiate Men's Eights competition.
