No. 2 women's rowing dominates Simmons, UVM

BOSTON -- The No. 2 nationally ranked Bates women's rowing team won convincingly in all three of its races on Saturday, in a regatta featuring the University of Vermont and host Simmons College.

Bates' varsity eight covered the 2,000-meter course on the Charles River, into a 15mph cross-headwind with gusts, in 7:05.94, 17.75 seconds ahead of runner-up Simmons (7:23.69), with UVM third in 7:35.90.

The 2V8 race was closer, but the Bobcats still outpaced Simmons by 6.75 seconds, 7:23.26. The 3V8 race saw Bates soundly defeat runner-up UVM 7:34.84 to 7:52.10.

The Bates women compete in Malden, Mass., next Saturday against host Tufts, along with a pair of other top 10 crews in Wesleyan and Wellesley.
