HADLEY, Mass. — The Bates women’s rowing team’s third straight second-place showing at last weekend’s NESCAC Rowing Championships, which are concurrent with the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships, translated into a third straight year with five all-conference honorees for the Bobcats on Thursday, as the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its 2013 All-Conference Rowing Teams.
A trio of first-time All-NESCAC honorees from the Bobcats were named to the All-NESCAC First Team: junior Hope King (Greenwich, Conn.) and sophomores Elizabeth Sangree (Ashford, Conn.) and Mallory Ward (Pittsford, N.Y.). Junior captain and WV8 coxswain Gabriella Bilotta (Washington, D.C.) and junior Heather Monty (Bedford, N.H.) were both named to the Second Team for the second straight year.
The Bates women’s rowing team’s three boats at NIRC — the first, second and third varsity eights — all medaled, with the WV8 receiving silver and the W2V8 and W3V8 both earning bronze.
Bates is one of three teams from the NESCAC, along with Williams and Trinity, who will compete at the NCAA Division III Women’s Rowing Championships, May 31-June 1 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. Bates is making its seventh consecutive trip to nationals, and has been the national runner-up team for four straight years.
