Women's rowing sweeps Bowdoin and Colby

GREENE, Maine -- The No. 4 nationally ranked Bates Women's rowing team dominated the 15th Thomas Hedley Reynolds President’s Cup regatta, hosted by the Bobcats on Sunday at the Bates Boathouse on the Androscoggin River. All six of Bates' entries finished ahead of competition from Colby and Bowdoin.

Bates put three boats on the water for the women's varsity eights race, against one apiece from Bowdoin and Colby, and the Bobcats swept the top three finishes. Bates WV8 won in 7:27.3 over their home 2,000-meter course on the Androscoggin River in a time of 7:27.3. Bates' W2V8 was next in 7:41.2, followed by Bates' W3V8 in 7:49.4. Bowdoin was fourth at 8:04.8, and Colby finished fifth (8:19.8).

Bates also outrowed Colby in a novice eights race, 8:37.7 to 9:00.9.

The Bobcats also defeated Bowdoin at the Polar Bears' specialty, fours, winning the WV4 race 8:30.8 to Bowdoin's 8:33.7, with Colby a distant third. Novice fours also went Bates' way, 8:53.5 to Bowdoin's 9:16.8 and Colby's 9:19.3.

Bates stays at home next Sunday to host Middlebury and the University of New Hampshire.
