HARTFORD, Conn. -- Kristen Anderson threw a two-hitter and Katherine Poulos also tossed a complete game to lead Trinity College to a doubleheader and series sweep over the Bates College softball team on Saturday. The Bantams won Game 1 6-4, then rode Anderson's pitching to a 4-0 win in Game 2.

Trinity improves to 7-7 overall and 3-0 in the NESCAC East, while Bates slips to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the division.

Trinity scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning of the first game on a two-out, two-run single by Kristina Yu to break a 4-4 tie, and Yu doubled home two more runs during a four-run sixth frame for the Bantams to break a scoreless tie in the second game.

Bates first-year shortstop Mary Lewis (Gardiner, Maine) and sophomore catcher Leah Maciejewski (Tewksbury, Mass.) both two hits in Game 1, with Lewis scoring two runs.

Bates scored three runs in the second inning, as Lewis followed a double by first-year AnnaMarie Martino (Plymouth, Minn.) with a single. Sophomore Kelly McManus (Plymouth, N.H.) drove in Martino on a fielder's choice, and sophomore Karen Ullmann (Ramsey, N.J.) singled to score Lewis, and an error on the play allowed McManus to score as well.

Trinity evened the game with a run in the second and two more in the third, and did it again as both teams scored once in the fourth.

Bates sophomore Kristen Finn (Winthrop, Mass.) went six innings and allowed six runs, five earned, striking out two.

Game 2 was a pitchers' duel between Anderson and first-year Caroline Gattuso through five and a half innings. While Bates had only one hit through the first six innings, a single by sophomore Monica Berube (Plaistow, N.H.) in the second, Gattuso held the Bantams scoreless on four hits through five. Trinity busted out with five hits in the sixth, and Gattuso finished with four runs, all earned, and struck out three batters. Sophomore Lauren Dobish (Chambersburg, Pa.) hit a double in the seventh inning.

Bates plays its home opener on Tuesday against Husson, in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Both games can be heard on Live Audio Webcast.
