Dobish named to NESCAC Softball All-Conference Team

Lauren Dobish '12 set a Bates record with 15 doubles and had the second-most hits in team history with 41.

HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates College sophomore Lauren Dobish was named to the NESCAC Softball All-Conference Second Team, announced Thursday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

Dobish (Chambersburg, Pa.), Bates' second baseman, had an outstanding 2010 marked by significant improvement from her rookie year. After batting .247 with nine RBIs last season, Dobish hit .402 in 2010 and led the team, or shared the team lead, in a slew of offensive categories, including hits (41), doubles (15), home runs (2), RBIs (24) and slugging (.608).

Dobish started in all 32 of Bates' games and led the NESCAC in doubles and ranked ninth in batting, and even ranked sixth among all Division III players in doubles per game (0.47). Defensively she posted a solid .958 fielding percentage at second base.

She set the team record for doubles in a season with 15, beating Katie Franklin's previous mark of 14 from 2006, and she accumulated 41 hits in all, second all-time in team history only to Cami Dyson's 44 hits in 2002.
