FARMINGTON, Maine -- The Bates College softball team swept a doubleheader at the University of Maine Farmington on Monday, winning Game 1 13-3 and taking Game 2 15-6 in five innings.

The Bobcats (4-16) rapped out 25 hits against the Beavers (4-10), including 4-for-7 combined days from senior Jean McIntyre (Marshfield, Mass.) and sophomore Lauren Dobish (Chambersburg, Pa.), who also hit two doubles and drove in four runs on the day. Both McIntyre and Dobish scored five runs on the day as well.

Sophomore Kristen Finn (Winthrop, Mass.) earned the win in Game 1, tossing seven innings and allowing three runs on nine hits. First-year Caroline Gattuso (North Reading, Mass.) won Game 2 in a five-inning, complete-game effort.

UMF led 3-1 after four innings in Game 1, propelled by Shannon Mitchell's two-run home run in the third. But the Bobcats came on strong to score five runs in the fifth, four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

First-year AnnaMarie Martino (Windsor Locks, Conn.) hit her first career homer, a solo shot in the sixth. Sophomore Monica Berube (Plaistow, N.H.) singled, tripled and plated three runs for Bates, while sophomore Karen Ullmann (Ramsey, N.J.) singled and tripled. Dobish singled and doubled and McIntyre collected three infield singles as the Bobcats recorded 15 hits.

In Game 2, Bates scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth to take a 15-2 lead. UMF rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn't enough to keep the game from ending via the eight-run rule. The Bobcats had four hits in the inning and took advantage of five walks and two hit batsmen. Sophomore Libby King (South Portland, Maine) delivered a bases-clearing, three-run double, two at-bats after Dobish notched an RBI by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. McIntyre and sophomore Vanessa Truglio (New Britain, Conn.) had RBI singles in the outpouring.

The Bobcats got the game started with five runs on five hits in the first inning, including a two-run double by sophomore Leah Maciejewski (Tewksbury, Mass.).

The Bobcats are slated to host Colby on Friday at 4 p.m., to start a three-game NESCAC East Division series.
