Five softball Bobcats named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes






STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Bates College softball team had five student-athletes receive 2011 NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete distinction, announced on Thursday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2010-11 academic year.

Bates' honorees were Mollie Kervick '13 (Windsor Locks, Conn.), captain Leah Maciejewski '12 (Tewksbury, Mass.), Karen Ullmann '12 (Ramsey, N.J.), Kiely Webster '12 (Bethesda, Md.) and captain Lauren Dobish '12 (Chambersburg, Pa.).

Over 4,000 student-athletes representing 707 different academic institutions were named as a 2011 NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete.
