LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College softball team senior Leah Maciejewski received a pair of all-region honors on Tuesday, garnering NFCA All-Region Second Team honors and being named Honorable Mention NEISCA Division III All-Star.
Maciejewski (Tewksbury, Mass.) is Bates' first Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III New England All-Region honoree, selected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, since Stacia Saniuk '09 in 2009. She was also elected Honorable Mention Division III All-Star by a separate body, the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA).
Maciejewski’s senior season playing catcher and first base with the Bobcats produced career-highs in batting average (.391), runs (19), runs batted in (23), slugging percentage (.543) and on-base percentage (.462). She clubbed two home runs and stole two bases as well, while sporting a .970 fielding percentage.
The two-year co-captain resides in the top five on Bates’ all-time statistical lists in four offensive categories: she is third in hits, with 123 (just four behind all-time leader Saniuk and one behind fellow senior standout Karen Ullmann (Ramsey, N.J.)), second in singles (89), second in doubles (30) and fourth in total bases (165). She hit .343 over her career with four homers and 73 RBIs in 359 at-bats, as well as a sparkling .975 career fielding percentage.
On May 3, Maciejewski was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Softball team for Division III District 1, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Maciejewski’s honor makes her eligible to be selected a CoSIDA All-American later this month.
While helping to lead the Bobcats to a program-record-tying 18 wins, with an 18-12 overall record, Maciejewski also earned a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship, to teach English at a university in Poland later this year. She’ll graduate with a double-major in English and Spanish with a 3.80 cumulative grade point average.
