LEWISTON, Maine -- Adriane Krul's two doubles comprised 40 percent of the hits for either team, as Bowdoin's Melissa DellaTorre outdueled Bates' Kelsey Freedman in a 1-0 win for the Polar Bears on Friday.
Bowdoin (23-9, 6-4 NESCAC East Division) extended its win streak to 10 games.
Bates (7-12, 1-6 NESCAC East Division) will play a doubleheader at Bowdoin tomorrow, beginning at 2pm, to complete the rivals' three-game series.
With the teams knotted at 0-0 through five innings, Krul hit her second double of the game to right-center to lead off the sixth. She moved to third on a ground ball, and scored on Casey Correa's sacrifice fly to right.
DellaTorre (Scarborough, Maine) allowed Bates just two hits in the game, both in the third inning. Sophomore Molly Brown (South Dartmouth, Mass.) hit a one-out single up the middle, and senior Mary Lewis (Gardiner, Maine) moved her to second on a two-out bunt single. DellaTorre induced a ground ball to end the threat. DellaTorre (10-5) allowed two walks and had seven strikeouts.
Freedman (Falmouth, Maine) walked six batters but allowed just three hits while collecting four strikeouts. Freedman (3-5) left nine Bowdoin baserunners stranded.
