HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates senior shortstop Mary Lewis was named Second Team All-NESCAC on Thursday, as the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its all-conference softball teams.
Lewis (Gardiner, Maine) capped her productive four-year career with her finest season as a Bobcat, batting .464 and setting team records in stolen bases and singles.
Lewis ranks third in the NESCAC in on-base percentage (.516), fifth in batting average (.464), second in stolen bases and first in steals per game (0.92). Her 24 stolen bases, out of a mere 26 attempts, were five more than any other player in team history, and her 54 career thefts are nine more than the next Bobcat on the list, Karen Ullmann '12. Lewis also established team standards in career singles (119) and singles in a season (39).
Among all Division III players, Lewis ranks seventh in stolen bases per game, 49th in batting average and 67th in on-base percentage.
Lewis is Bates' first All-NESCAC selection in softball since Lauren Dobish '12 in 2010.
