LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates softball team's senior captain, Mary Lewis, is the focus of a profile feature story in the March 27 edition of the Lewiston Sun Journal.
Sun Journal staff writer Kevin Mills wrote "Short change for Lewis" about the native of Gardiner, Maine, and graduate of Saint Dominic Academy.
The article spotlights Lewis's transition this season from playing third base the past two seasons for Bates to shortstop this seaso, following the graduation of Lauren Dobish '12. Lewis is also credited for her consistent offensive production in all four years in a Bobcat uniform, even as opposing pitchers' familiarity with her approach has grown.
"It's actually hard to be as consistent as she's been," Bates head coach Gwen Lexow told Mills. "When you look at some sophomore and juniors, when the opponents have the book, that's when you really see if they can keep those numbers. If so, that makes it even more impressive.
Lewis is hitting .400 and leads the team in runs (11), total bases (12) and stolen bases (7). She and the 4-4 Bobcats open NESCAC East Division play with a three-game series at Tufts this weekend.
