CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Bates softball team defeated the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg 15-3 and fell to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy 16-3 on Friday at the National Training Center.
Bates (2-2) will take on Elizabethtown and Manhattanville on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.

First-year Kirsten Pelletier (Sidney, Maine) earned her first collegiate victory by tossing a complete game four-hitter in the Bobcats' 15-3 victory over Pitt.-Greensburg Friday afternoon.
Pelletier (1-1) allowed three runs on the aforementioned four hits, walking four and striking out five to earn the win.
First-year India Woolmington (New York, N.Y.) led the offensive charge by going 3-5 with a run scored, three doubles and three runs batted in. Junior Tori Fitzgerald (Holliston, Mass.) went 3-5 with a run scored and a run batted in. First-year Julia Treadwell (Falmouth, Maine) went 2-5 with two runs scored and fellow first-year Julia Panepinto (Buffalo, N.Y.) tallied a 2-3 day at the plate with three runs scored, a double and a run batted in.
The Bobcats scored three runs in the third to take the lead for good.
Sophomore Andrea Russo (Cheshire, Conn.) tripled in a pair of runs to get Bates on the board. An error plated Russo to extend the Bobcat lead to 3-0.
After Pitt.-Greensburg got a run back in the bottom half of the frame, Bates responded with a run in the top of the fourth. Treadwell singled to start the inning. Woolmington followed with a double and one out later Panepinto drove in Treadwell with a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Bobcats.
The Bobcats added two more in the fifth.
Sophomore Mimi Crowley (Barnstable, Mass.) tripled leading off the inning. Senior Maddie Inlow (Falmouth, Maine) doubled in Crowley. Fitzgerald drew a walk and Treadwell reached on a fielder's choice. Woolmington followed with an RBI double, driving in Pelletier.
After Pitt.-Greensburg responded with two in the bottom of the fifth, Bates plated two runs in the sixth.
Panepinto doubled and scored on an error to make the score 7-3 in favor of Bates. One out later, another error extended the lead to 8-3.
The Bobcats blew the game open in the seventh with seven runs. Fitzgerald and Woolmington delivered the big hits in the inning with an RBI single and a two-RBI double respectively.

Coast Guard scored eight runs in the third inning to run away from the Bobcats, defeating Bates 16-3 in five innings Friday afternoon.
Julia Ferris (2-1) struck out seven batters over the course of five innings to earn the win for the Coast Guard. Sophomore Sam Fellers (Mendham, N.J.) went the distance but suffered the loss for Bates in the circle.
Bates fell in a quick 4-0 hole in the top of the first.
With two outs and nobody on, Emma Hvozdovich drew a walk. Then Coast Guard strung together three consecutive hits, including a two-RBI triple from Casey Cruzpino and a Sharayah Simco RBI double to go ahead 3-0. After another walk, Emily Hogan singled in the fourth run of the inning.
Bates responded right away in the bottom of the first. After Russo reached on an error, Crowley got hit by a pitch. Inlow singled to load the bases and Fitzgerald doubled in a pair of runs. One out later, Treadwell singled home Inlow to cut the deficit to 4-3.
But a pair of strike outs ended the inning with no further damage to Coast Guard.
Russo tallied a pair of hits but that was the extent of the offense for the remainder of the game for the Bobcats. The Coast Guard scored three in the second to extend their lead to 7-3. Then they added eight in the third. The inning began with five consecutive hits, an error, a walk and another hit before Bates recorded an out on a fielder's choice. Seven runs scored before an out was recorded and they added one more on a two-out RBI single from Carly Hattman.
Bates struggled on defense in the game, committing five errors and surrendering four unearned runs.
Russo finished 2-3 with a run scored and Fitzgerald went 1-3 with a double and two runs batted in.
