Lamdin, Drake win in tri-meet with Tufts, Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. -- Bates junior Kelsey Lamdin (Brunswick, Maine) won both diving events and sophomore Katelyn Drake won two backstroke races, highlighting the Bobcats' day at a tri-meet with Tufts University at Wheaton College on Saturday.
The Bates women were outscored by Tufts 175-120 and by the host Lyons 189-108, while the Bates men were outscored 238-41 by Tufts and 155-89 by Wheaton.
Drake (Hudson, Ohio) swam the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.04, nipping Wheaton's Abby Pratt by 0.88 seconds. In the 200 back she finished in 2:11.09, over three seconds ahead of Tufts' Meredith Cronin.
Lamdin placed first in the 1-meter diving with 253.80 points, ahead of runner-up and Bates sophomore Annaliese Rudis (223.35). She scored 271 points at the 3-meter platform, with Rudis second at 244.25.
Lamdin's fellow qualifier for the NCAA Championships, senior Dan Perry (Exeter, N.H.), was edged by Tufts sophomore Robert Matera for first place in both men's diving events. Perry scored 252.70 points at 1 meter to Matera's 262.30, and 251.80 points at 3 meters to matera's 274.35.
The Bates quartet of junior Chris Berry (Augusta, Maine), junior Nate Cooper (Chestertown, Md.), junior Bill Walsh (Huntington, N.Y.) and senior Pat Flaherty (West Hartford, Conn.) placed second out of eight in the 400 freestyle relay, in 3:25.84.
