Wellesley nips women's swimming and diving in tri-meet

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Bates College fell to Wellesley College by the slimmest of margins in women's swimming and diving action at Connecticut College on Saturday. The Bates women's swimming and diving team accepted a 145-144 loss to Wellesley and by a 191-104 score to host Connecticut College, while the Connecticut men defeated Bates 187-70.

Bates sophomore Katelyn Drake (Hudson, Ohio) scored big victories in the women's 50-yard backstroke, in 29.28 seconds, and in the women's 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:02.50 that nipped Connecticut College's Meghan Donnelly by .09 seconds.

Bates junior Chris Berry (Augusta, Maine) won the 100 back on the men's side, with a time of 56.90 seconds, and finished second in the 50 backstroke (26.67 seconds).

Bates divers were again a highlight for the Bobcats. Four-time All-America junior Kelsey Lamdin (Brunswick, Maine) won the 1-meter with 264.15 points and the 3-meter with 265.95. Sophomore Annaliese Rudis (North Andover, Mass.) was a strong second in both events, with 234.90 and 213.53 points respectively.

Bates senior Dan Perry (Exeter, N.H.) took first in the 1-meter with 249.98 points and the 3-meter with 252.68 points.
