HADLEY, Mass. -- Junior Gabrielle Sergi heads the list of four women who officially were recognized as All-NESCAC performers on Tuesday, following the past weekend's NESCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. NESCAC All-Conference honors go to the top three finishers in each event at the NESCAC Championships.
Sergi (Newburyport, Mass.) placed third in the 50-yard freestyle on Friday, where she set the team record in the preliminary heats, going .03 seconds under Charlotte Green’s former mark of 24.11 at 24.08. Sergi made the A Final in the event, where she finished third overall in 24.04, lowering her own mark by another .04 seconds.
That same night, Bates placed third in the A Final of the 200 freestyle relay, becoming the Bobcats' first All-NESCAC relay team since 1994. First-year Caroline Depew (Hudson, Ohio), who swam the anchor leg in a speedy 51.3 seconds, junior Emilie Geissinger (Darien, Conn.), first-year Whitney Paine (Moultonborough, N.H.) and Sergi combined in the effort. Bates timed in at 1:36.57 in the race, breaking the former team record set in 2011 by Sergi, Geissinger, Kara Leasure and Green.
It is the first All-NESCAC honor for all four women.
