Matia Kostakis '08
LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College junior Matia Kostakis has been voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's basketball teams, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
Kostakis (Andover, Mass.) was named to the District 1 College Division Second Team. District 1 comprises all of New England and New York, and the College Division comprises athletes from NCAA Divisions II and III.
An economics and mathematics double major, Kostakis carries a 3.75 grade point average. To be eligible for the team, an athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior and maintain at least a 3.20 grade point average on a 4.00 scale.
Kostakis is the only player from the New England Small College Athletic Conference to receive this honor. The 6-foot forward leads the NESCAC in rebounding, with 9.5 boards per game, and she is the conference's seventh-leading scorer at 14.6 points per game. She also ranks among the conference leaders in field goal percentage (.438, 15th), steals (1.95, 11th) and blocked shots (0.74, 13th). She was named Second Team All-NESCAC last season and was the NESCAC Co-Rookie of the Year while playing for Amherst in her first year of college.
