Val Beckwith '09 reached double figures in scoring for the 18th consecutive game.

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Senior Meg Coffin (Westford, Mass.) tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds, leading Bates College to a 57-45 victory against Connecticut College in a NESCAC game played at Luce Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. Coffin knocked down 5-of-9 field goal attempts and was a perfect 3-for-3 at the charity stripe, adding three blocks in her second consecutive double-double, and the 31st of her career.

Junior Val Beckwith (Woburn, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds for the visiting Bobcats (12-7, 2-3 NESCAC). Senior Matia Kostakis (Andover, Mass.) tallied nine point and eight boards off the bench for Bates, who held a 51-to-26 advantage on the backboards.

Connecticut College (10-9, 0-5) senior Lindsay Michel (West Haven, Conn.) poured in a game-high 14 points to go with three steals for the host, shooting 6-for-11 from the field. Katy Serafin (Carmel, N.Y.) netted 10 points and hauled in six rebounds. In the second half of the contest, Serafin reached another milestone, becoming just the sixth Camel to top 1,200 points in a career. Emily Cumming (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) finished with eight points for the Camels.

Bates built a 10-to-4 lead with 12:24 to play in the opening half. Kostakis keyed the spurt, knocking down a two and following that with a three. But the Camels shaved the Bobcat lead to one point in the latter stages of the half. Cummings canned a jumper and Cindy Roseen converted a free throw with 4:12 to play that made it a 19-18 contest. The Bobcats closed out the half with a 9-0 run, building a 28-18 lead at the break.

In the second stanza, the Bobcats continued to utilize their size advantage in the post, building their largest lead of the game at 47-28 on a Kostakis jumper with 9:11 remaining. The visitors shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the line in the second half to come away with the 57-45 triumph.

Bates will play at rival Bowdoin on Tuesday night 7 p.m. in a non-league matchup, before a second straight NESCAC road weekend at Williams and Middlebury.
