WATERVILLE, Maine -- Junior Val Beckwith (Woburn, Mass.) finished with 15 points and three steals in leading the Bates College women's basketball team to a 75-51 win over Colby College on Tuesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Bates moved to 9-4 overall, while Colby fell to 3-8. The game did not count in the New England Small College Athletic Conference standings.
Senior Meg Coffin (Westford, Mass.) added 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots. Sophomore Danielle Schaefers (Barrington, R.I.) chipped in 10 points off the bench, shooting 5-for-5 from the floor, while first-year Jessie Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) had nine points on 4-for-4 shooting.
Katie McCabe (Watertown, Conn.) and Julianne Kowalski (Montville, N.J.) both had 14 points for Colby. Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, Mass.) added 10 points, while Karlyn Adler (Rye Brook, N.Y.) finished with seven assists.
Bates outrebounded Colby by a hefty 40-24 margin and managed to shoot 50 percent (30-for-60) on field goals, despite a tough night from behind the three-point arc (3-for-26).
Colby starts NESCAC play at Middlebury College at 7 p.m. Friday, while Bates will play host to Trinity College at the same time.
Bates will start NESCAC conference play this Friday, when the Bobcats host Trinity College at 7 p.m. Amherst will pay a visit on Saturday at 3 p.m.
