Lauren Yanofsky '10

Bates College junior forward Lauren Yanofsky (Belmont, Mass.) took home her second award of the week Tuesday, when she was named the first Player of the Week this season by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA), which comprises all Division III women's basketball programs in New England.

Yanofsky was also named NESCAC Player of the Week award on Monday.

The 6-foot-0 Yanofsky averaged 17.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game during a 2-1 week for the Bobcats. She started the week with 17 points and 10 rebounds in an 83-61 win over the University of New England last Tuesday. She followed with her second double-double of the week, another 17-point, 10-rebound effort in a 64-59 decision over rival Bowdoin on Thursday. Yanofsky closed out the week with her best shooting performance, going 8-for-15 with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals in a 66-55 setback to Tufts on Saturday. She shot .489 percent on the week (23-for-47).

Since joining the starting lineup seven games ago, when the Bobcats played Lynchburg in the South Padre Island Shootout, Yanofsky has responded with the best basketball of her collegiate career. Over that span Yanofsky has three double-doubles and averages 15.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.1 blocked shots per game, while shooting .490 from the field. She has now risen into the conference leaders in scoring (11.6 ppg), blocked shots (0.93 bpg) and field goal percentage (.490).
