Balanced Bobcats roll past UMFK in Mariner Classic

CASTINE, Maine -- Senior Kellie Goodridge led six players in double figures with 17 points as the Bates College women's basketball team coasted to a 94-49 win over UMaine-Fort Kent on Monday in the opening round of the Mariner Classic.

The Bobcats (7-3) will face tournnament host Maine Maritime Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the tournament championship game, while UMFK (5-4) plays Gordon in the consolation game.

Goodridge (Merrimack, N.H.) shot 7-for-8 from the field and 2-2 from the free-throw line to reach her season high in scoring, while adding four rebounds and four assists. Senior Lauren Yanofsky (Belmont, Mass.) and first-year Allie Beaulieu (Swampscott, Mass.) added 16 points apiece, with Beaulieu shooting 7-of-10 from the floor to go with five assists and three steals.

Sophomore Kelsey Flaherty (South Portland, Maine) scored a season-high 11 points on 4-5 shooting, and first-years Taryn O'Connell (Georgetown, Mass.) and Bri Hawkins (South Portland, Maine) both tallied 10 points and six rebounds apiece. Sophomore Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) dished out a team-high six assists and grabbed eight rebounds. First-year Colleen Garvey (Haverhill, Mass.) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

The Bobcats led the Bengals 47-32 at halftime before putting on a dominating performance in the second half, outscoring UMFK 47-17. Bates totalled a season-high 32 assists in the game as a team and achieved large edges over UMFK in points in the paint (52-18) and points off of turnovers (36-6).

Kristin Violette led the Bengals with 16 points while Amber Garrison added 10. Maliesha Caesar had a game-high 13 rebounds.
