LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates junior Jessie Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) won a pair of women's basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday. Igoe received NESCAC Player of the Week honors, as well as Co-Player of the Week laurels from the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The 6-foot-1 center shared the latter award with Shelby Bradford of Husson.
Igoe scored a career-high 22 points, including a 10-for-11 performance at the free throw line, to go with 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals as Bates defeated Tufts 71-55 in the Bobcats' lone game this week, the team's regular-season finale. It was the first win over a nationally ranked team for the Bobcats since Jan. 13, 2006, when Bates knocked off then-No. 2 Bowdoin 56-51.
These are the first player honors for Igoe, one of three team captains for Bates. She also received mention on the New England Women's Basketball Association's weekly Honor Roll.
Bates earned the No. 6 seed in the NESCAC Championship, which begins Saturday. The Bobcats will play at third-seed Williams in the quarterfinal round, with the tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
