NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- First-year Allie Beaulieu scored a season-high 21 points to lead the Bates College women's basketball team to an 82-54 victory over Castleton State Friday on the first day of the Ed Hockenbury Classic at Norwich University. The Bobcats (4-2) will meet Norwich tomorrow in the tournament championship game at 3 p.m.

Beaulieu (Swampscott, Mass.) hit 7 of 12 shots from the field, including 3 of 6 from behind the three-point line, and added five rebounds and four assists and three steals. The rookie forward has scored in double figures in four out of six games for the Bobcats.

A pair of Beaulieu free throws early in the first half started a run of 13 unanswered points, which included a three-pointer by senior Kellie Goodridge and a pair of layups by junior Christine McCall (Lowell, Mass.), for a 20-4 advantage with 9:44 left. Bates extended the run to 21-2 as another three by Goodridge made it 28-6 with 7:23 to play in the period, and Bates went on to lead 38-17 at halftime.

Goodridge (Merrimack, N.H.) added 13 points and senior Lauren Yanofsky (Belmont, Mass.) added 11 points with five steals. First-year Taryn O'Connell (Georgetown, Mass.) scored nine points, McCall added eight, and sophomore Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) passed out five assists.
