Kelly named Maine Rookie of the Week in women's basketball

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates first-year guard Meredith Kelly was named Maine Rookie of the Week on Tuesday by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Kelly (Cohasset, Mass.) scored 11 points in Bates' 69-49 win over Wesleyan on Friday night, then posted 15 points in an 86-59 triumph over Connecticut College on Saturday. On the week she averaged 13 points, four rebounds, one assist, and two steals per game. Kelly was 10-for-19 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the charity stripe for the week.
Over the week, Kelly rose to eighth in the NESCAC in field goal percentage on the season, at .481. Through six NESCAC games, she ranks second in conference games with a .514 field goal percentage.
It is the second time this season that Kelly has claimed Maine Rookie of the Week honors. She also won the award on Dec. 6, 2010.
Kelly and the Bobcats (16-5, 4-2 NESCAC) travel to Trinity on Friday night (8 p.m.) and play at Amherst on Saturday at 4 p.m.
