Women's basketball team runs past Thomas, 104-65

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates College women's basketball team won 104-65 Tuesday night at Thomas College, the most points in a game for the Bobcats since 2002.

Six players scored in double figures for Bates (7-1), which won its seventh straight game.

Senior Jessie Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) led with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting in the first half. Junior Lauren Dobish (Chambersburg, Pa.) scored 14 points, all in the first half, with six assists, while first-year Meredith Kelly (Cohasset, Mass.) and sophomore Taryn O'Connell (Georgetown, Mass.) scored 13 apiece, while junior Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) had eight assists and six rebounds. First-year Susan Russell (Bethesda, Md.) and sophomore Brianna Hawkins (South Portland, Maine) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, with Hawkins grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.

The Bobcats burst out of the gates and seized a 19-5 lead just 4 minutes and 8 seconds into the contest. After Igoe and O'Connell scored six and four points, respectively, for a 10-2 Bates lead with 17:39 to go in the half, Dobish hit four consecutive buckets, including a three-pointer. A jumper by Burns extended the lead to 21-5.

Later in the first half, Bates poured on a 12-0 run over a span of 2:24, from O'Connell's layup at 5:06 to a jumper by sophomore Allie Beaulieu (Swampscott, Mass.) at 2:42, which made it 59-32. Beaulieu contributed six assists.

Dobish, Igoe and O'Connell all scored in double figures in the first half, and Kelly hit all four of her shots for nine points, as the Bobcats grabbed a 64-37 halftime lead. Bates' 104 points are the team's most since scoring 105 against Mount Ida on Nov. 23, 2002. That was also the last time Bates scored over 100 points.

Kellie Martel and Karin Bird scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the host Terriers (2-4).

The Bobcats are off until the D3Hoops.com Classic on Dec. 28 and 29 in Las Vegas, Nev. Bates will face St. Norbert College on Dec. 28 and Kenyon College on Dec. 29.
