LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates first-year Molly Brown heads the state All-Rookie Team as Maine Rookie of the Year, announced Wednesday by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Brown (South Dartmouth, Mass.) ranked second on the Bobcats, and 13th in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, in scoring average, with 11.3 points per game in 18 contests. In NESCAC games, Brown scored a team-high 12.1 points per game, 11th best in the conference. Brown also ranked among NESCAC leaders in field goal percentage (.407, 12th), 3-point field goal percentage (.367, 8th) and 3-pointers made per game (1.83, 3rd). Brown also averaged 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting free throws at a .794 clip (27-34).
Three times this season, the 5-foot-9 forward was named MWBCA Rookie of the Week. Brown scored in double-digits in 12 of her 18 games played, including a season-best 19 points on Jan. 14 in a win over rival Bowdoin, which would go on to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
It is the third year in a row Bates has placed a player on the Maine All-Rookie Team, following Meredith Kelly '14 in 2011 and Allie Beaulieu '13 in 2010. Brown is Bates' first Maine Rookie of the Year since Sarah Barton '08 in 2005, although Kelly earned NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors a year ago.
