NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Senior guard Lauren Dobish scored a season-high 17 points and first-year forward Molly Brown added 13 points, but the Bates women's basketball team couldn't stop host Connecticut College from collecting its 13th win in 15 games on Friday night, 71-56.
Dobish (Chambersburg, Pa.) made 6-of-9 shots from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line, and also grabbed six rebounds and made two steals. Brown (South Dartmouth, Mass.), meanwhile, made 5-of-10 from the floor, including 3-of-7 behind the three-point line. Dobish's fellow senior captain Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) pitched in with eight points, a season-high eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Jenn Shinall scored 22 points, despite being held to 5-of-15 shooting, while Tara Gabelman led the Camels (13-2, 4-1 NESCAC) with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting, to go with 13 rebounds and three steals -- her 10th double-double of the season.
The Camels put together a 15-6 run in the second stanza, capped by Shinall's three-pointer with 6:01 remaining to break the game open with a 56-37 advantage.
The Bobcats got the lead down to 10 at one point but could not break into the single digits. Connecticut College converted 13 of its 16 free throws in the second stanza and knocked down 85% (17-for-20) of its shots at the charity stripe in the win.
