Women's basketball romps 88-43 at Husson

BANGOR, Maine -- Senior Allie Beaulieu led four Bates players in double figures with 19 points, hitting 5-of-7 three-point attempts to become Bates' all-time leader in 3-pointers, as the Bobcats took an 88-43 victory at Husson University on Tuesday night in non-conference action.

Beaulieu (Swampscott, Mass.) finished the game with 151 career threes, eclipsing the former team record of 150 held by Lauren Dubois '04. But the senior co-captain played an exceptional all-around game, also leading or sharing the team lead in rebounds (8), assists (5) and steals (4),

Bates (1-3) also got 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting from senior Taryn O'Connell (Georgetown, Mass.). O'Connell made all seven of her two-point field goal attempts in the game and added five rebounds and three steals.

Sophomores Allaina Murphy (Poland Spring, Maine) and Hillary Throckmorton (Bangor, Maine) added 13 and 11 points, respectively, tying a career high for Throckmorton.

First-year Chelsea Nason (Boxford, Mass.) contributed season highs of eight points and seven rebounds.

Husson was led by senior Kelli Murray and junior Stephanie Comstock, who each had nine points.

Bates (1-3) opened the game on a 25-4 run behind sharp shooting and passing.

Husson (0-1) forced 17 turnovers on the night, but unfortunately turned over 29 times themselves in the loss.

Beaulieu scored 14 of her game high 19 in the first half, as Bates led 46-16. O'Connell hit three straight 15-foot jumpers during one stretch of the second half.

Bates shot an impressive 53% from the floor, 41% from beyond the arc and 85% from the line to round out a very solid stat line. Bates was without the services of its leading scorer, sophomore Molly Brown (South Dartmouth, Mass.), and continues to miss the team's leading scorer from last season, junior Meredith Kelly (Cohasset, Mass.), to a preseason injury.

Overall the Eagles shot 36% from the floor, over 28% from three-point land and 65% from the charity stripe.

Bates hosts UMaine-Farmington tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7pm (Live Stats / Video) in the Bobcats' second in-state, non-conference game in as many nights.
