BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Babson women's basketball team went on a 19-6 run to start the game and held on to defeat Bates 69-58 Friday night.

Chelsea Nason '16 (Boxford, Mass.) led the Bobcats (8-14) with 17 points and Lyse Henshaw '18 (Brunswick, Maine) chipped in 13 points, hitting a game-high three three-pointers along the way.

Nina Davenport '18 (Freeport, Maine) pulled in a team-high 12 rebounds and Allie Coppola '17 (Tarrytown, N.Y.) reeled in 10 boards. Davenport scored seven points and Coppola tallied eight points and three assists.

Meanwhile the Beavers (18-5) got a game-high 19 points from Kristen Ferola. Linnett Graber had a huge game, scoring 14 points and pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds.

Babson out-rebounded the Bobcats 59-41 and dominated points in the paint: 46-26. Their rebounding advantage also allowed the Beavers to get 22 second chance points to the Bobcats' nine.

Bates never led in the contest. The Beavers jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Bernadette Connors '17 (Windham, N.H.) got Bates on the board with a layup with 6:24 to go in the first quarter. Connors finished with eight points on the night.

The Beavers led 17-6 at the end of the first quarter. The ensuing quarters were much closer. But Babson pushed their lead to 13 at halftime and 14 at the end of three quarters of action.

Connors cut the deficit to 60-51 with 5:36 to go in the game and a Coppola layup cut the deficit to eight with 2:46 remaining. But Babson went on a quick 5-2 run to secure victory at the end of the game.

Bates returns home Sunday to host Williams at 2:00 p.m. in the final regular season game of the year.
