Women's lacrosse blows by Nor'easters, 18-3









LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates junior Abby Saucier (Yarmouth, Maine) scored a career-high three goals with one assist and first-year Lindsay Thompson (Ipswich, Mass.) added two goals and two assists as the Bates College women's lacrosse team cruised to an 18-3 non-conference victory over in-state rival University of New England on Tuesday.

Bates got on the board in the first two minutes of the game, on the first of two goals by junior Molly Radis (Peaks Island, Maine), then extended the lead to 6-0 before the Nor'easters (0-4) entered the scoring column on an unassisted score by sophomore Kate McCarter (Bellingham, Mass.).

The Bobcats (3-2) got four more scores before intermission for a 9-1 lead at halftime, and made it a 10-0 run until UNE got back-to-back goals from McCarter and senior Amanda Barker (Gloucester, Mass.) to close the gap to 16-3.

Also scoring for Bates were junior Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) with two goals and one assist; first-year Caroline Pierce (Weston, Mass.), sophomore Briana Gross (Andover, Mass.) and first-year Joan O'Neill (Westwood, Mass.) with two goals apiece; sophomore Emily Howe (Carlisle, Mass.) with one goal and two assists; senior Caroline Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) with one goal and one assist; junior Molly Dilworth (Yarmouth, Maine) with two assists; junior Cameron Powel (Shaker Heights, Ohio) with one goal; and first-year Ellie McDonald (Manchester, Mass.) with one assist.

Bates outshot UNE by a 40-13 margin, as UNE sophomore goalie Tera Geraghty (Barrington, R.I.) came up with nine saves. Bates sophomore Mara Krueger (St. Louis, Mo.) played in goal for the first half, making four saves, and first-year Leah Elsmore (Shaker Heights, Ohio) played the second half and made a pair of saves.

Bates will next play at NESCAC foe Wesleyan on Saturday at noon; UNE will host Colby-Sawyer on March 25 at 3 p.m.
