Women's lacrosse defeats Gordon at home, 21-12

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's lacrosse team scored a 21-12 non-conference victory over Gordon College on Thursday, the Bobcats' fourth win in the past six games.

The Bobcats (7-4) got out to a quick 4-0 lead before Gordon (3-6) had ever gained possession of the ball, and extended the lead to 7-0 before the Fighting Scots got on the board with an unassisted tally by Katie Knaus with 16:01 left in the first period.

Gordon closed the gap to 11-6 by halftime, but Bates went on a 6-1 run to start the second half for a 17-7 lead with 22:24 remaining in the game. Gordon responded with a 5-1 run to close the gap to 18-12 with 13:01 left, but the Bobcats held the Scots scoreless the rest of the way and finished out the game with three more goals for a final score of 21-12.

Bates senior Caroline Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) scored five goals and added two assists to lead the Bobcats in scoring on their biggest offensive day of the season. Thomas has now matched her career-high goals total of last season, with 38.

Junior Molly Radis (Peaks Island, Maine) added a season-high four goals and an assist, and junior Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) had three goals and an assist for the second straight game. First-year Jenna Dannis (Milford, N.H.) tallied two goals and two assists, and sophomore Briana Gross (Andover, Mass.) added two goals and one assist. Sophomore Emily Howe (Carlisle, Mass.) also scored twice for Bates.

Danielle Zorn (Mercer Island, Wash.) led the Scots with five goals, while Katie Knaus (Kensington, Conn.) added four to go with a game-high four ground balls. Annie Cameron (South Hamilton, Mass.) scored once and assisted on two others.

Bates sophomore Mara Krueger (St. Louis, Mo.) started in goal and made two saves in over 41 minutes of action before giving way to first-year Leah Elsmore (Shaker Heights, Ohio), who made three saves. Chyanne Wilson stopped 12 shots in net for Gordon, as Bates outshot Gordon by a 40-24 margin.
