LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates women's lacrosse team scored the final 16 goals of the game in a 19-2 blowout win over Wellesley on Sunday at Garcelon Field.

The visiting Blue (6-3) lost their second straight, while Bates (4-4) won its second game in as many days, after beating NESCAC foe Amherst yesterday.

Bates opened the game with three straight goals -- one each by sophomore Jenn Brallier (Chambersburg, Pa.), senior Briana Gross (Andover, Mass.) and junior Jenna Dannis (Milford, N.H.) -- within the first 3:18 of the game. Wellesley narrowed the gap to 3-1 on sophomore Meagan Fuchs' (Portland, Ore.) 12th goal of the season, then closed it to 3-2 with 18:01 left in the first half on senior Jenny Holland's (Bethesda, Md.) team-high 26th goal of the year, off of sophomore Allison Robbins' (North Bennington, Vt.) team-high 14th assist.

Holland's goal appeared to wake up the Bobcats, who won the ensuing draw and scored 15 seconds later with Brallier's 20th goal of the season, to make it 4-2. The score began a rapid succession of Bates goals -- the Bobcats scored seven over a span of 4:17 -- that broke the game open. When Brallier netted her fourth goal of the opening 20 minutes, putting Bates ahead 11-2 with 10:19 remaining, Bates head coach Brett Allen replaced his starting goalie, senior Mara Krueger (St. Louis, Mo.), with junior backup Leah Elsmore (Broadview Heights, Ohio), and thereby began to rotate his starting players out of the game. First-year Blair Shrewbury's (Boxford, Mass.) first career goal with 52 seconds left in the first half gave Bates a 15-2 edge at the half. Bates played ball-control for the vast majority of the second half, outscoring the Blue 4-0 over the final 30 minutes.

Bates sophomore Erin O'Connor (Avon, Conn.) scored one goal and collected five assists, for a career- and team-high six points. Brallier finished with four goals, and junior Joan O'Neill (Westwood, Mass.) tallied two goals with two assists. Fourteen Bates players tallied points on the day, including multiple-point efforts by junior Maggie Reilly (Wellesley, Mass.) with three, junior Lindsay Thompson (Ipswich, Mass.) with three, first-year Rosie Hale (Winchester, Mass.) with two, Dannis with two, first-year Bridget Meedzan (Ipswich, Mass.) with two and Shrewsbury with two.

Senior Mary Mattia (Atlanta, Ga.) started in goal for Wellesley and made six saves against 18 goals allowed over 47 minutes. First-year Tori Hysko (Reisterstown, Md.) played the final 12:37 and allowed one goal.

Krueger finished with two saves for Bates and allowed both Wellesley goals in 20 minutes of action. Elsmore made three saves in a shutout 26-minute stint, and sophomore Eloise O'Connor (Loudonville, N.Y.) played the final 14:26 and made one save.

First-year Wally Pierce (Weston, Mass.) led Bates in both ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (3).

Bates finishes its four-game homestand by hosting Southern Maine on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Wellesley hosts Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
