HADLEY, Mass. -- Junior midfielder Wally Pierce received IWLCA All-America honors on Thursday from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches of America, becoming the 16th All-American in Bates' team history.
Pierce (Weston, Mass.) was named Third Team All-America, joining 47 other Division III players to receive All-America distinction this season. This is the third day in a row she has received a postseason honor, having been named IWLCA First Team All-Region on Tuesday and NESCAC Second Team All-Conference yesterday.
Pierce this year ascended to the ranks of the finest two-way midfielders in the top conference in Division III women's lacrosse. She played an exceptional season at both ends of the field, leading Bates in most major statistical categories: goals (26), points (32), draw controls (50), ground balls (40) and caused turnovers (22). Pierce led the NESCAC in draw controls per game (3.33), while also ranking second in ground balls per game (2.67) and ninth in caused turnovers per game (1.47).
The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on May 25 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
The Bobcats made the eight-team field of the NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Championship for the fifth year in a row, finishing with a 7-8 overall record.
