LEWISTON, Maine -- Two of the 48 Division III All-America selections announced Monday by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association are Bates Bobcats, in senior Wally Pierce and sophomore Hannah Jeffrey.
Pierce (Weston, Mass.) was picked as a Second Team All-American midfielder, while Jeffrey (Greenwich, Conn.) earned Third Team All-America goalkeeper honors.
It is the first season since 1995 that Bates has had two players earn All-America honors (Hillary Crane-Stern and Martha Macdougal); meanwhile, Pierce becomes Bates' first All-America selection in multiple seasons since Martha Macdougal in 1994 and 1995.
Pierce (Weston, Mass.), a two-time All-NESCAC selection and an IWLCA Third Team All-America honoree last season, led the Bobcats with 79 draw controls and 31 ground balls while ranking second on the team with 27 goals. She was a First Team IWLCA All-Region selection this season and finished her career as Bates' all-time leader in career draw controls with 177.
In her second season as Bates' starting goalie, Jeffrey (Greenwich, Conn.) earned First Team All-NESCAC and Second Team All-Region honors. She recorded 129 saves on the year (8.6 per game). She tallied a .527 save percentage and an 8.14 goals-against average during the season and posted 10 or more saves in seven games.
Jeffrey becomes the 17th All-America player in team history; Pierce became the 16th a year ago.
The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday, June 7, at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
