WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williams College women's soccer team improved to 10-0, scoring five goals in the second half to turn a 1-0 game at intermission into a 6-0 rout over Bates Saturday. Williams moves to 5-0 in NESCAC play, while Bates drops to 1-8 overall and 0-6 in conference.

Scoring a season high six goals, Williams, ranked No. 13 in Division III and No. 2 in New England, appeared unstoppable on offense and gave the Bobcats few looks at goal. Bates managed only one shot on goal in each half, while Williams rattled off 26 shots, with 10 coming in the first period and 16 in the second.

Both teams opened the game playing well, and while Williams had many chances on goal in the opening minutes they could not capitalize.  Finally, nearly 30 minutes into the match the Ephs got on the scoreboard off an impressive sequence of passes between Gabrielle Woodson and Sarah Walmsley.

Walmsley finished the day with an assist and a goal. Woodson scored her fourth consecutive game-winning goal, and now leads with team with seven goals after this afternoon's two goal outing.

Heading into the second half only up 1-0, the Ephs came out firing after halftime.  Walmsley scored just three minutes into the second period, while Woodson tallied her second goal less than ten minutes into the second half to extend the Ephs' lead to three goals.

Bates senior Nini Spalding (San Francisco, Calif.) started in goal for the Bobcats and made four saves while allowing two goals in over 57 minutes of action. First-year Brittney French (Auburn, Maine) and sophomore Emily Staszak (Auburn, Maine) also saw time in net, making five and three saves, respectively.

Bates will attempt to break back into the win column Wednesday, when they play a non-conference match at the University of Southern Maine (4 p.m.).
