HARTFORD, Conn. -- Leigh Howard scored late in the first half on a corner kick from Erika Maciaszczyk, and Devin Nwanagu added a second-half, penalty kick goal to lead the Trinity College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over NESCAC rival Bates College this afternoon.
The Bantams improve to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the league with their first win in five games, while the Bobcats slip to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the NESCAC.
Bates had control early in the match, but as the first half progressed, Trinity gained momentum and retained possession on the offensive end for the majority of play before intermission.
Bates first-year goalkeeper Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) made 11 saves in her first collegiate start, while Emily Weedon made six saves for the Bantams in the shutout.
Bates plays at non-conference, in-state rival Husson College on Tuesday at 4 p.m., followed by a NESCAC game at Middlebury on Saturday at 11 a.m.
