NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Bates College women’s soccer team opened the 2010 season with a 1-0 NESCAC conference victory against host Connecticut College Saturday at Silfen Field on Saturday. Bates junior forward Alix Vandeventer (North Attleboro, Mass.) buried a header in the 30th minute of action to lift the visitors to the victory. Junior Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.) assisted on the tally with a crossing pass for the Bobcats.
Junior goalie Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) made three saves en route to the shutout win for the Bobcats. Kirsten Manville had seven stops in the loss for the Camels.
Bates outshot Connecticut College by a 12-7 margin, with half of the Bobcats' shots tallied by Tobin. Vandeventer took four shots and sophomore Sam Rose (Toronto, Ontario) attempted two shots.
Ali McKeigue supplied two shots to lead the Camel offense. Jill Cote, Trish Guay and Jess Kharasch chipped in with blocked shots at the defensive end for the hosts.
