Women's soccer tripped up at Trinity, 3-0

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Leigh Howard scored two goals for the second time this season to lead Trinity College to a 3-0 win over the Bates College women's soccer team in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon.  Trinity improves to 3-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the league, while Bates slips to 2-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the league.

Howard continued her scoring spree early in the first half with her first goal of the game in the 16th minute of action, her fifth of the season.

Later in the first half, junior transfer Katie Giberson scored her first career goal with the Bantams to give Trinity a 2-0 cushion. Howard put the game out of reach with another goal midway through the second half.

Trinity’s defense has yet to allow a goal this season. The Bantams have collected six shutouts in their last seven games, dating back to last season. Trinity is the only NESCAC team without a loss on their overall record this season.

Junior Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) made 12 saves in goal for Bates, which had to deal with a 16-6 disparity in shots taken in the game. Lily Pepper and Emily Weedon combined for the shutout, with two and four saves apiece. First-year forward Jaimie Cappucci (Saugus, Mass.) attempted a team-high three shots for Bates.

Bates plays a non-conference game at Husson University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
