BANGOR, Maine -- Sophomore Krista Prouty put Bates on the scoreboard in the 28th minute, and junior Jaimie Cappucci added a late goal as the Bates women's soccer team won 2-0 in a non-conference game at Husson University on Wednesday night.
Prouty (Norwell, Mass.) shook off her defender with a series of individual moves, going left and right before dribbling the ball into the net for the Bates lead.
Bates dominated play throughout both halves, outshooting the Eagles 11-1 in the first 45 minutes and 11-4 in the second half. But the score remained 1-0 until the final minute of the game. With 16 seconds left on the clock, junior captain Julia Rafferty (Reading, Mass.) assisted junior Jaimie Cappucci (Saugus, Mass.).
Junior Anabel Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) needed only one save to record her second straight shutout in goal for the Bobcats.
Jessica Poulin had 13 saves for Husson (4-9-0) to keep the Eagles within reach, including a key one in the 58th minute when she laid out to stop a laser of a shot from Cappucci.
Bates (2-5-1) plays host to Wesleyan on Saturday, during Parents & Family Weekend, with an 11am start (Video).
