AMHERST, Mass. -- The No. 10 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team defeated No. 18 Amherst College on Sunday by a 7-2 score, despite forfeiting a point due to being short of usual No. 1 player Kelsey Engman. It was the first meeting between the teams this season.

First-year Whitney Roller (Haverford, Pa.) played in the No. 1 spot for the first time and conceded the point. The rest of the Bobcats (16-7) moved up one spot from their usual and ran the table from positions 2 through 8, including first-year Hannah Laverty (Brooklyn, N.Y.) coming through at the second spot by a marathon 9-3, [5-9], 9-3, [9-10] 9-7 score.

Bates finishes regular season play Tuesday at Tufts. The match is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. at Belmont Hill School.
