HARTFORD, Conn. -- The No. 12 Bates College women's squash team will begin play in the 2008 NESCAC Women's Squash Championship on Saturday at Trinity College in the quarterfinals, having earned a first-round bye. Bates is the No. 3 seed in the tournament, fitting their third-place finish at least year's NESCACs.
The Bobcats (7-7) received a first-round bye and will begin tournament play in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. against Friday's winner between No. 6 seed Tufts and No. 11 seed Connecticut College.
The Bates women's squash team is anchored by their senior cornerstones and tri-captains, Charlotte Gerrish (Rye, N.Y.), Jenny Imrich (Cambridge, Mass.) and Caroline Lemoine (Natick, Mass.), while sophomore Hannah Laverty (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has assumed the top spot in the Bobcats' lineup. The Bobcats have maintained a No. 12 CSA ranking and were the third seed entering the NESCAC Women's Squash Championship on Feb. 1-3. All seven of their victories thus far this season have come by 9-0 scores. Bates won four straight Kurtz Cups until Cornell broke the streak last season, ending the year with a school-record 19 wins. The Bobcats have finished top 10 for five straight years.
