Parris, Roller and Laverty compete at CSA Individual Nationals




HARTFORD, Conn. -  In the first day of competition at the women’s CSA Individual Championships hosted at Trinity College, Bates had three players completing: first-year Chari-Ann Parris, and seniors Whitney Roller and Hannah Laverty. Both Roller and Laverty competed in the Holleran Cup of the Individual Nationals last season.

Parris (St. Philip, Barbados) was selected to compete in the Ramsay Cup (A Division). Parris’ fell to fifth-ranked Toby Eyre of Williams College (11-6, 11-2, 11-6). Parris next played in the consolation bracket, losing a tough match to Jamie Laird of Cornell (11-3, 11-10, 11-4). She completes an immensely successful inaugural season at the number-one spot for the Bobcats.

Roller (Haverford, Pa.) and Laverty were selected to compete in the Holleran Cup (B Division). Roller fell to NESCAC opponent, Robyn Williams of squash powerhouse Trinity College (11-9, 11-2, 11-3). Roller then fell in a hard-fought match to Tessa Martin of Northeastern University in the consolation bracket, 3-2.

Laverty (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) won her first match of the weekend  defeating Katherine Bullard of George Washington University (5-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-5). Laverty lost the first game, but came back to win three straight to take the victory and move on to the round of 32. Laverty's next opponent was the sixth-ranked player, Britt Hebden of Pennsylvania University, who defeated Laverty to advance to the quarterfinals (11-2, 11-1, 11-2).

Both Roller and Laverty cap off tremendous careers as members of the Bates College Women's Squash team.
