Women's squash sweeps No. 15 Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. -- NESCAC opponent Amherst proved to be no challenge for the Bates women's squash team on Saturday, as the Bobcats outscored the No. 15 nationally ranked Lord Jeffs 24-3 in games in a one-sided 9-0 victory. Bates improves its record to 8-2 on the season.

No. 9 Bates swept all but three spots in the ladder. First-year Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia), junior Cheri-Ann Parris (St. Philip, Barbados), first-year Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.), sophomore Ashley Brooks (Roslindale, Mass.), sophomore Rakey Drammeh (New York, N.Y.), and first-year Chloe Mitchell (Chatham, N.J.) all took wins in straight games.

Sophomore Samantha Matos (New York, N.Y.) won the No. 5 spot in a much closer four-game match (7-11, 11-4, 11-3, 13-11). Junior Ali Bragg (Darien, Conn.) came back to win in three straight sets after losing the first to defeat Amherst's Mary Katherine McNeill in the No. 8 spot. First-year Lesea Burke  (Greenwich, Conn.) finished the sweep in the No. 9 spot with a four-set win (7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6).

Bates travels to No. 8 Dartmouth for a key match tomorrow at 3pm.
