LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates senior Cheri-Ann Parris was named the Harrow Sports Player of the Women's National Team Championship for Kurtz Cup (B Division) play on Wednesday.
Parris (St. Philip, Barbados) led the charge as the Bobcats defeated Williams and Middlebury en route to the Kurtz Cup championship final vs. Dartmouth. Against the Big Green, the captain scored Bates' lone point in an 8-1 Dartmouth victory, giving Bates a final national ranking of No. 10 in the country, and second among Division III schools.
As the College Squash Association website describes it, "Although Bates lost to Dartmouth in the Kurtz Cup final, the Bobcats fought their way to the finals. In the opening round, they defeated higher-seeded Williams, 5-4, with the help of Parris’ victory over the Ephs’ #2, Laura Henry. Against Middlebury, Parris defeated the Panthers’ Abigail Jenkins to help the Bobcats advance to the finals. She was the sole Bates player to capture a match against the Big Green."
Parris capped a superlative career with six straight wins, finishing 15-6 this season and 64-27 in her career. She was named First Team All-NESCAC in all four years as a Bobcat.
